Sculptural representations of Heracles in the castles of the Kingdom of Bohemia during the baroque period. Chosen examples
Vlčková, Petra ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Kepartová, Jana (referee)
The immediate purpose of writing this thesis is to explore the sculptures of Heracles outside of the selected Baroque castles in the contemporary Ústí nad Labem Region and in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. For this assignment, I have aimed to obtain documentation concerning the decor of individual castles, based on which I further interpret sculptural works, particularly depicting this demigod, and exceptionally several other sculptures located on selected castle grounds. In addition, I also address the question of how this hero is most often depicted and what its function in the concerned areas should be. There are two parts to the final assignment- a theoretical part and a research part. In the theoretical part, I deal with the introduction of Heracles in Graeco-Roman mythology, as well as the characteristics of Baroque and its reflection in arts such as architecture, music, sculpture, literature and painting. As research methods, I chose interviews with employees of individual institutions and documentation analysis. In the research part, I briefly describe the history of selected castles and the overall artistic outdoor composition while tracking more precisely the dates of creation of the sculptures depicting this hero, as well as their authors, materials utilized and...
Cephalopods and biostratigraphy of North Bohemian Jurassic sediments
Hrbek, Jan ; Košťák, Martin (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
The Jurassic ammonites from the Northern Bohemia has been revised on the base of the material stored in the National Museum in Prague and the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. 23 species and 19 genera, belonging to 7 families were described on the basis of this systematical revision. This ammonite assemblage indicates a proportional occurence of the Boreal, Tethyan and also cosmopolitan taxa. Stratigraphically important taxa suggest a considerably longer period of sedimentation, predominantly represented by the Upper Jurassic carbonates. This interval may contain up to 9 ammonite zones. A pilot microfacial analysis of carbonates from Peškova stráň area (in Krásná Lípa vicinity) indicates a considerably higher variability of sedimentation area. The presence of micritic carbonates suggests the existence of a widespread areas in the Late Jurassic sea covering the Bohemian Massif. The biostratigraphy and palaeogeography is briefly discussed in the European Late Jurassic context. Key words: ammonites, Upper Jurassic, Northern Bohemia, carbonate sediments, biostratigraphy, palaeogeography
Northern Bohemia as a potential distribution area of the genus Tuber including summer truffles (Tuber aestivum)
Šťovíček, Václav ; Gryndler, Milan (advisor) ; Jablonský, Ivan (referee)
Truffles are economically important fungi that are naturally present in the territory of the Czech Republic. Their geographical distribution is traditionally documented by the field incidence of fruitbodies. Advanced detection methods, however, enabled us to detect the presence of Tuber spp. at localities without a need for finding the underground fruitbodies. In this work, a molecular genetic detection method based on the polymerase chain reaction with specific primers was used. It enables us to determine the occurrence of members of the genus Tuber including Tuber aestivum in the studied samples. Members of the genus Tuber were detected in 67 cases out of a total of 190 samples. Highly probably, Tuber borchii, Tuber foetidum, Tuber rufum, Tuber dryophilum, Tuber umbilicatum, Tuber huidongense, Tuber oligospermum and Tuber aestivum have been detected. Since the sequence similarity with the closest species is relatively low in some cases, some of the obtained sequences might belong to hitherto unknown truffle species. Environmental factors analyzed explain only a small portion of the variability, acted weakly and cannot be taken as decisive for the presence or the absence of a species in a sample. The occurrence of truffles in the slopes of the study area was noted and it seems to be still more...
Conceptualization of Space in Historiography
Pýcha, Čeněk ; Činátl, Kamil (advisor) ; Spurný, Matěj (referee)
The main topic of this master thesis are the representation of space of northern Bohemia in the era of czechoslovakian state socialism. The aim of thesis is to approximate historical agents understanding of space. There is a Michel de Certeau's concept of space in the methodological background. De Certeau understands space like a set of places, which is designed by dynamic by social agents. For analysis I have chosen some social realms, where is strong connection to space (tourism, cultural heritage managment, school education, visual representation and sending postcards). The sources were designed by these social realms and the thesis is grounded on the case studies. At the end of thesis I have tried to apply Aleida Assmann's theory of paradigmatic change in the social concept of time. This change we can observate in the 80s and it occures also in space, because direct in space is made sense of time. Keywords: space, northern Bohemia, socialism, representation, historical agent
Blockfields of the neovulcanic pits in Northern Bohemia: location, morphology, weathering rate.
Plecháč, Petr ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Hartvich, Filip (referee)
Blockfields as an indicator of landscape development with a specific microclimate is presented in many scientific publications. This diploma thesis is focused on finding the relationship between the hardness of stone blocks and the intake of potential radiation, with an assessment of morphology, location and local conditions. Within the selected study areas in Northern Bohemia was recorded a total of 73 blockfields, of which 22 sites were selected for further investigation. From the results of the statistical analyses was shown the relationship between the income potential of radiation and the degree of ventilation of stone blocks. The analyses also show the relationship between the hardness of stone blocks in the blockfields and the orientation of the blockfields to the world's sides, which proved to be significant. The tests performed by the analyses of each third (high) stone seas have shown the possibility of moving rock blocks downhill.
Between tradition and modernity: City in the industrial age. North Bohemian architecture in the first half of the 20th century
Zeman, Jaroslav ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee) ; Vorlík, Petr (referee)
From the mid-nineteenth century the North Bohemian industrial area, populated mostly by Germans, experienced an unprecedented urban and demographic growth. The onset of the industrial revolution meant a major breaking point, in particular because the following periods shaped it most notably. The characteristic trait of the cities is a precipitous urban development with building boom. Thereby an impressive scrum of mutually coexisting industrial complexes, palatial villas, spectacular public buildings, generous garden districts and small town housing projects originated, creating the peculiar local genius loci. The border areas have always been a busy crossroads of cultures, histories and ideologies, in which Czechs, Germans and Jews mingled and interacted with each other, and thus they reflect the complex ethnic relations in the territory of today's Czech Republic. The Thesis focuses on the architecture of Czech Germans which formed the natural counterpart to the architecture of the Czech majority. The aim is to set this "second stream" of culture into a wider Central European context and find and define the specifics of the buildings production of Czech Germans. For this purpose, the trio of industrial agglomerations Usti nad Labem, Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou was chosen, which are also compared...
Municipality of Hradčany in Podještědí in the story of contemporary history
Havelka, Jan ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee)
This master's thesis follows the author's previous bachelor thesis Village Hradčany in Podještědí at Contemporary History 1914 -1948. Using terminology and methods of regional history and microhistory it accents exploring contemporary history of whole commune and municipality Hradčany with all of its historical villages. It will deal comprehensively with cultural-historical and political-historical problems and phenomena of the of the second half of the 20th century, beginning with the communist rise of power in 1948 , continuing by demise of traditional rural economy in the fifties. But it will also mention the extinction of commune Hradčany itself and its connecting to the bigger commune of socialist type in seventies and developement of socialist rural society. Due to comparing the local archive sources with sources from other surrounding settlements the work should produce a synthetical historical source, which could be taken as a general picture of history of settlements in the region. The whole work is based primarily on archive and oral-history research, interviews with the oldest settlers, collection of photographic sources and written documents as memories.
